City Guides Beirut

Rym Beydoun, founder and designer of Super Yaya, shares her favorite food spots in Beirut - a city close to her heart with a thriving culture of talented artisans. She and her team design and develop all Super Yaya pieces between Beirut and Abidjan, including Gohar World's four-piece capsule collection of summertime baskets.

Rym takes us on a journey to her hometown and shares four of her favorite restaurants in the city (plus an old hangout spot/headquarters!).

THE BEST OF ARMENIA IN BEIRUT
ICHKANIAN BAKERY

Ichkanian is a traditional bakery that serves the best Armenian meat wraps ("lahme bi ajin") on the go. It was founded in 1946 by Yeghia Ichkhanian, whose life-long dream was to introduce the Armenian culinary art of Aintab to Beirut, his second home.

For nearly seven decades, Ichkhanian's neighboring streets have been blessed with the delicious smell of lahme bi ajin. The bakery continues to dream up pastries that visitors love and seek out exclusively at Ichkhanian.

FOR FRESH FISH AND A FRENCH FRY SANDWICH

EM SHERIF SUR MER

Em Sherif is a women-led fine dining restaurant. Anchored in the heart of Beirut by the shore of the Mediterranean sea, Em Sherif is a visual and culinary homage to Lebanon's historic ties to the Mediterranean world.

The contemporary café is decorated with delicately hand-painted Portuguese Azulejo wall tiles, and serves a varied menu of main and mezze-style offerings focused around fresh fish and seafood dishes. Em Sherif is also the perfect place to shamelessly eat a French fry sandwich.

RYM'S GEMMAYZEH HEADQUARTERS

TORINO EXPRESS

Rym's headquarters when she was living in Gemmayzeh, Torino Express is a tiny European-style bar in the french-influenced neighborhood. Set in a vaulted cellar of a 1930s Beiruti House, this hole-in-the-wall restaurant functions as a café during the day and hosts some of Beirut's best DJs at night.
