City Guides Milan

On this week’s Restaurant City Guide, we’re headed to Milan. Milan is a Gohar World fave city – here we’ve hosted a dinner with Gucci, made 15-meter tarts, built egg towers for Salone del Mobile, and more.

We are here this week for a Gohar World store at Alcova Milano, opening next Monday, April 15 through April 21. Read on to discover the guide to Milan, and let us know what city we should visit next.

FOR CHEAP AND CHIC EATS
OSTERIA DEL TRENO

This traditional Italian Osteria serves simple but delicious plates. Their lunch menu is designed to be accessible, comprised of quick Italian go-to’s made with quality ingredients. The restaurant closes after lunch for “riposo” – essentially “nap-time” to the locals – but reopens for dinner that is equally as inexpensive but meant to be enjoyed in a slower way.

Osteria Del Treno has had a recent uptick of tourists due to a Stanley Tucci shoutout. Visiting the restaurant with his wife, he described it as “embodying the history and spirit of Milan like nowhere else”.

FOR MILANESE GRANDEUR
BOEUCC

Located in the heart of Milan, Boeucc is the epitome of Milanese grandeur. Open for over 325 years, they have perfected the menu, service, and ambiance of an Italian bistro. Walking in, you’ll be welcomed by servers dressed in black and a dining room filled with renaissance sculptures and crystal chandeliers. The menu is very traditional: pasta dishes, fresh fish, and quality meat, all perfect for pairing with their extensive wine list. Don’t forget to leave room for the tiramisu!

FOR A SWEET TREAT
MARCHESI

This classic Milanese pastry shop celebrates its 200th birthday this year! Founded in 1824, the Pasticceria quickly gained recognition due to its exceptional Panettone, a classic Italian Christmas cake. The Marchesi family began serving coffee and cocktails during aperitivo hour, eventually transforming the pastry shop brand into an all-around chic café.

The shop has four locations around Milan, serving pastries, chocolates, and aperitifs. While they are known for many sweets, the Torta Aurora takes the cake. A recipe perfected by the Marchesi family, pastry cream is piped between layers of sponge cake dressed in vanilla syrup.

FOR LAILA’S COMFORT PASTA
Trattoria Bolognese da Mauro

Trattoria Bolognese da Mauro is Laila’s go-to for simple and classic Italian pasta. While the restaurant might not be the fanciest, it is host to perfectly home-cooked meals that soothe the soul for those that have travelled long hours and distances.

Be sure to come hungry (and with a reservation, as this hole in the wall fills up quickly!). If you look up from your pasta you’ll notice odd drawings on the walls –they’re used napkins drawn on by local artists after finishing a meal.

FOR A SEAFOOD FANTASY
Trattoria Del Pescatore

This Sardinian trattoria is one of the first in Milan to specialize exclusively in seafood. Their star dish is the Lobster Catalana: de-shelled boiled lobster tossed with olive oil and lemon, sliced red onions and sardinian tomatoes.

The restaurant is also credited with pioneering the tradition of offering guests an after-dinner serving of fresh Pecorino Sardo cheese fresh out of the wheel, along with a shot of iced Mirto (sardinian liqueur). Adored by locals and tourists alike, this is the leading spot for fresh seafood in Milan.
