How to: Host a Sidewalk Dinner

How To How to: Host a Sidewalk Dinner

Summer has arrived in New York City. Back-to-back weeks of sunny days and 70-degree weather can only mean one thing: sidewalk dinner season is upon us.

Sidewalk dinners are a staple in Gohar World - they're a simple, yet meaningful, way to celebrate with family and friends. While restaurants and larger venues typically come to mind when thinking of hosting, the best seat in the house may just be one on the sidewalk.

On today's newsletter, Laila...

STEP ONE

PLAN THE LOCATION

Gohar World sidewalk dinners were hosted outside our old Chinatown studio. It is a long stretch of sidewalk with neighboring businesses that close down for the night.

For your own sidewalk dinner, pick a wide sidewalk that can fit both a table and guests on either side. Be sure you choose a location that will not annoy your neighbors. Otherwise, be sure to invite them. If you don't live on the perfect sidewalk for this, "borrow" a friend's sidewalk - no one has to know.

STEP TWO

PUT A TABLE OUT

Extra-long dining tables are difficult to come about, so we have gotten creative at GW with sawhorse legs paired with long wooden slabs. The flexibility of both objects allow us to create tables at any length and for any amount of guests. We build them quickly and for as many people as needed - the more the merrier!

STEP THREE

DECIDE ON A TABLECLOTH AND DECOR

Ideally and obviously, a Gohar World tablecloth. Layer a few to cover the whole table - our Shirt Tablecloth can be infinitely expanded with additional panels.

Choose dishes and silverware that match - tables need accessories too.

STEP FOUR

FINALIZE YOUR MENU

Remember, everyone is there to have a good time - including you! If you're feeling stressed, your guests will feel stressed for you. To avoid worrying about cook times and temperatures, choose a menu that is simple to put together and dishes that will sit well at room temperature. We love salads, Spanish tortillas, and beans.

STEP FIVE

INVITE THE BLOCK!

Friends, family, exes, neighbors, co-workers... Just be ready for when they inevitably ask you at the end of the night when you plan to host your next sidewalk dinner.
